Services

R.E.A.D. has been providing educational services to area residents since 1975. Our programs are designed to assist students who are experiencing academic difficulties, attention deficit disorder or poor organizational and study skills. We also offer study support for advance placement students. Small group instruction is offered by credentialed teachers in basic skills through high school course work.

We offer Year-Round Services and Summer Programs.

Year-Round Services

Standard Tutoring

Our standard program increases each student's academic skills by accurately assessing individual learning styles, tailoring teaching to each student's learning strengths and weaknesses, coordinating our efforts with those of the parents and school personnel, while building confidence in learning. Students are signed up for a month at a time, generally one 45 minute period per session two session per week; but any number of days per week or hours per day can be arranged.

Students are placed with a credentialed teacher in small groups of three. We can arrange individual one-to-one instruction. Except for rare cases of unanticipated schedule conflicts or illness, your child will always have the same teacher for the month, to build rapport and accelerate progress.

On-campus Math and Reading/Writing Intervention

Where approved by individual schools/districts, R.E.A.D. offers courses focused on fundamentals in math and reading/writing for students at risk of falling behind grade level. These courses are separate sessions in math or reading/writing that begin immediately after school on-campus. Sessions are one hour, two days a week for six week sessions. We maintain a six student to one teacher ratio to insure every child gets the help they require. We also welcome the participation of students at or above grade level needing homework assistance. The success of this program has been fantastic, especially at participating Middle Schools.

Test Preparation

Concerned about the mid-term exam or maybe the comprehensive final? We offer one hour focused study sessions the week before mid-terms and finals for all local schools, public and private. These are extra sessions, to supplement the test preparation included in regular sessions, or to focus on a subject other than those the student usually works on. For example, a student focusing on pre-algebra in their tutoring sessions might want to review for a history or English exam.

Proctored Exams

R.E.A.D. is a certified proctor facility for on-line course work. Such work, generally taken during protracted illness or to remediate a poor grade, requires that final exams be taken with a proctor present. We would be pleased to sign off on your exams. Should you need help with the on-line course work before you take the final we can help here as well.

Summer Program

Most parents and virtually all teachers know that critical skills learned during the school year become rusty if not used over the summer. This is the primary reason we work at R.E.A.D. during the summer; to eliminate the learning dead zone. Summer is also an excellent time to catch up on weak fundamentals which are so difficult to focus on during the school year as new concepts are being added.

Summer Tutoring

Our summer program still concentrates on the individual student's need, optimal learning style, and small groups with a credentialed teacher. In summer we extend sessions to a full hour, two days a week for a full six weeks of intense focus on fundamentals. We offer fundamentals at a grade appropriate level in math, language arts, writing, and science. We also assign a small amount of homework, tailored to providing each individual student with independent practice.

Our summer schedules can be modified to accommodate family vacations, the student's participation in extra-curricular activities and the need for some down time.

Summer Remediation

R.E.A.D. is pleased to offer Grade Remediation for participating schools. For students, generally at the high school level, who need to achieve a passing grade or want to improve a grade for college credit, remediation may be an option. Only the student's school can authorize remediation.

If a Remediation Agreement is approved by the school, R.E.A.D. offers two alternatives:
  • Small group program, three students to one credentialed teacher
  • Classroom program, ten students to one credentialed teacher
All students in the Classroom program must be studying the same course material

In either case a minimum of 20 face-to-face hours of instruction are required per subject, completion of all course work, and C- or higher grade on a final. A replacement grade for the subject will be submitted to your school.

Remediation is available in:
  • Algebra I & II, Geometry and Trigonometry
  • Biology, Chemistry and other science courses
  • English, Spanish, French
  • US and World History

R.E.A.D. strongly encourages our Year-Round Program to prevent the need for future remediation. Remediation is also available on-line through Brigham Young University for those students with the self discipline to complete a computer based course.

On-line Class Support

For students planning to take an on-line remediation course but lacking a computer, desirous of having a teacher available for questions, or wanting the discipline of a formal setting, R.E.A.D. offers the tools and place to successfully complete grade remediation. The students will work at their own pace but have access to our credentialed teachers and broadband speed access to the Internet. We are also a certified proctor for the on-line tests including BYU's.
